Fulfillment of environmental legislation requirements in penal institutions is an important direction of sustainable development and environmental protection. This article aims to study the problems encountered in the application of environmental laws in penal institutions and to identify strategies for ensuring their compliance. The study highlights the importance of raising awareness among inmates, staff and administrators about environmental laws and their implications. It also emphasizes the need to develop effective monitoring mechanisms and penalties for non-compliance. The study shows that a collaborative approach involving various stakeholders such as government agencies, non-governmental organizations, prisoners, staff and administrators is essential to ensure the effective implementation of environmental legislation in penal institutions.
